ST CROIX FESTIVAL THEATRE - Plays/Music/Education

715-483-1382 Downtown

Do you realize how fortunate we are to have a professional theatre in our own town?  There are very few communities that can say that.  And how more local can you get when they also produce some of their own productions!  In addition to plays, the Festival Theatre has wonderful well-known musicians booked, and educational programming too.  Housed in a 1917 Vaudeville theatre it's a truly unique venue - a real architecural gem that takes you back in time.

The Festival Theatre does so much for our community.  Not only culturally but economically as well.  This is a regional theatre that draws from far and wide, and when a ticket holder comes to town, studies have shown that on the average, they spend 2 1/2 times their ticket price at other businesses in town.  Now that's an import local asset!  Click on their link above to see a schedule of events, and contact information.  Support the arts!

EWE-nique Boutique is located in the same building as the In the Wool at 236 Washington St (another wonderful shop - be sure to see their profile).  EWE-nique Boutique is a new shop in town, so check back often to see her growing inventory of goods.  Call for hours and class info.  Knit local!

When you have a quilt shop with over 3,000 bolts of fabric why would you go anywhere else for your quilting supplies?  Not only does owner, Mary Anderson, have everything you need to quilt, she has a nice supply of yarns in her Wool 'n' Mittens yarn shop too.  Get 6-10 of your friends together and do your projects upstairs at the Lambs Inn Retreat.  They have ironing boards, irons, work tables and rolling chairs.  Your work party can go into the night too since the Inn can sleep up to six (at a very reasonable price).  What a wonderful way to experience all that this shop has to offer!

GROCERIES

FINE ACRES MARKET - Groceries/Supplements

715-483-9918 Downtown

Sometimes people lament to me about what they're downtown of Old looked like - hardware stores, grocery stores - well you know what folks - we're lucky because have them both!  SCF is so fortunate to have a grocery store downtown that sells wonderful natural foods (grocery, veggies and fruit, bread, milk, cheese, etc), supplements, and skin care products.  Local foods too!!!!  If you want to save some extra money - or you want to reduce the use of packaging - they have bulk items too. You can also contact Fine Acres if you would like to use their community meeting room in the back.  Support your local grocery store - buy local!!

HARDWARE

CLAYTON'S HARDWARE HANK AND RADIO SHACK - Hardware/Electronic/Repair

 715-483-3555  Downtown

I don't know about you, but my time is short, and when I go into a store I want it fast and I want the sales person to be knowledgeable.  I get both of those things in spades when I go to Clayton's Hardware Hank and their Radio Shack store upstairs.  I lost my husband in Menard's once - I swear I walked three miles trying to find him!

I also found out that Clayton's offers a lot of services.  Did your dog chew through the cord on your heater?  No problem,  Clayton's can rewire it for you.  Did you punch something through your screen?  No problem, Clayton's can repair it for you.  Owner, Mark Sabel, has over 30 years of experience in the hardware, maintenance and repair business.

So next time you need something from the hardware store, or you need your lamp rewired consider buying local and stop downtown and make your purchase from Clayton's Hardware and Radio Shack!  For hours and location click the link

JEWELRY AND JEWELRY REPAIR

MARTENS JEWELRY - Jewelry/Gifts

715-483-3737  Downtown

It's so much fun finding out all the great things our local businesses have to offer, and that's even the case for our own SCF jewelry store, Martens Jewelry.  Not only do they have gorgeous jewelry, watches, and gifts, but they have services too including metal eyeglass frame repair.  No less than 24 hours after I learned about their eyeglass repair my husband said "Oh man, look what broke this morning."  Sure enough - the stem broke off of his wirerim glasses.  I was so excited I chirped "Don't worry about it, Martens Jewelry in St Croix Falls can fix it!"  Sure enough, three hours  and only $18 later he could stop wearing his sunglasses in the house.

Martens has been in our community for over 25 years, so it's a business you can depend on.  Often when you go into a chain store to buy jewelry you need to put money down to put your jewelry on lay-by, but at Martens there's no money down and no interest on their lay-bys (good thing to keep in mind for those pricey engagement rings!).  Bling Local Buy Local!

GRECCO'S ON THE ST CROIX - Restaurant

715-483-5003 Downtown

So I try not to play favorites, but wow is this a great restaurant!  Justin Grecco, owner, has brought his culinary skill and enthusiasm to our fair city with a menu that changes weekly.  Yes, weekly!  Being that I'm all about buying local these days, I like how he uses as much locally grown food and wine to create his gourmand menus.

A fun element of his evening menu is the Chef's Tasting Menu.  You can have 4, 6 or 9 courses - with or without wine.  If you go with wine, I love how that comes first - leaving you guessing as to what kind of food surprise is about to appear.  The first time my Husband and I had the tasting menu Terry said it felt like we were dating again (and that was 27 years ago) - thank you Justin!

Justin also has some great cooking classes - what a perfect gift idea.  For more info, times, and menu (sign up for his weekly email)    Eat local buy local!!

P.S. A recent visitor from San Francisco commented that the food at Grecco's was as good, if not better, than anything you can get in the Bay area.  What a fine compliment!

INDIAN CREEK WINERY AND GRILLE - Restaurant/Wine/Beer

 715-483-2829 Downtown

Here's a great new restaurant that you can depend to be open when you want something to eat - 11:00am-11:00pm 7 days a week.  How great that is for people who are hungry after a show at the Festival Theatre!  The Winery & Grille also have a diverse menu that continues to expand - salads - sandwiches - kabobs and pasta are currently the offerings.  You'll also find local foods here and a large selection of local and regional wines and beers - including their own Indian Creek wines made from their Indian Creek Orchard apples.

When I say they have wine - I don't mean just for your meal, you can use Indian Creek Winery and Grille as your local wine shop.  I'm looking forward to when they start offering their wine and beer making classes sometime this winter, and next spring you'll be able to enjoy your meal outdoors on the plaza next door.  Check it out - Eat Local Buy Local!

SHOE AND SHOE REPAIR

COBBLER SHOP SHOES - Shoes/Boots/Repair  715-483-5798  Downtown

You know what I don't like about big box shoe stores?  They don't smell like the shoe shops I remembered as a kid.  Remember that smell?  Well you can get that experience again, and buy the kind of shoes and boots that last you years (and then you can have them repaired to last you even longer).  The Cobbler Shoe Shop is downtown St. Croix Falls.  You can click on their link for more information, or just stop in - smell the leather - and visit with the Olson's. They truly love what they do.
